 In March, we saw Samsungs version of an Animated Mobile plug-in,and now, it seems as though V2R has come up with an imitation similar of that sort. V2R Active UI is the first entirely decked out graphical animated user interface (GUI) for the Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 6 platform. Based on V2R’s i2i platform and V2R’s new Online Design Studio, this application is supposedly the best graphical development engine for applications and plug-ins. And by looking at the picture to the right, it seems as though they have proof to back it up—the interface looks extremely advanced and futuristic! In addition, with its easy-to-use user interface, the V2R allows you to personalize your Pocket PC with free add-ons in different animations.So if you’re one of those PPC geeks that need to have all the up-to-date applications and plug-ins, V2R Active UI will surely take you a step closer in the right direction. Jazz up your Windows Mobile with V2R ActiveUI

Alright stop, let's be honest for a minute. There's a lot of things I'd still like to change about Windows Mobile. Screen switching still takes longer than it should and the standard home screen is as dull as can be. Following the launch of the iPhone there definitely needs to be a hefty injection of "swooshiness" into Windows Mobile for it to survive, but at the same time I'd hate to see it go all Vista-esque with phone manufacturers having to use graphics cards, bags of memory and 2Ghz CPU's just to make it look good.
V2R Active UI proves that it's easy to add "swooshiness" on all existing Windows Mobiles. We've got it running here in the animated preview, but there's stacks of different animation styles, icon packs and extra applications to choose from... oh, and it's completely free! The only question I've got is... why isn't this included in all Windows Mobile phones?
V2R Active UI, their Photo Dialer and other such software is doing more to individualise Windows Mobile, but I'd still like to see the "standard" Microsoft interface updated in the next version of Windows Mobile.

UPDATE: Sling Media releases new version of SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Mobile
Earlier this week, Sling Media released two new versions of its SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Mobiles: One for Windows Mobile Professional smartphones and one for Windows Mobile Standard smartphones, which are both available available for download now. The primary feature addition in the new release is official support for new screen resolutions incl. 800x480, 640x480, 400x240 and 320x320 which means the new version of SlingPlayer Mobile, which works with every Slingbox, provides now support for 15 new Windows Mobile handsets including the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, the Palm Treo Pro, the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro, as well as the Samsung SGH-i900 Omnia among others.

PROGRESS: Mozilla releases Fennec Alpha 2 - Still awaiting Windows Mobile release
While Mozilla's Fennec mobile Web browser isn't yet available for Windows Mobile but for the Maemo platform only (which is the preferred development platform), the Fennec developers made some good progress and recently released Fennec Alpha 2. While it's still an early developer release of the mobile version of Firefox, for testing purposes only, the initial focus of development was on building a new user interface that reflects Firefox's design principles and adds touch screen support and other features that are appropriate for mobile phones and other handheld devices.
