PROGRESS: Mozilla releases Fennec Alpha 2 - Still awaiting Windows Mobile release
While Mozilla's Fennec mobile Web browser isn't yet available for Windows Mobile but for the Maemo platform only (which is the preferred development platform), the Fennec developers made some good progress and recently released Fennec Alpha 2. While it's still an early developer release of the mobile version of Firefox, for testing purposes only, the initial focus of development was on building a new user interface that reflects Firefox's design principles and adds touch screen support and other features that are appropriate for mobile phones and other handheld devices.

CHANGE: Sony Ericsson to switch from HTC to Mobinnova
As Taiwanese DigiTimes writes today, Chinese-language Commercial Times has reported that Sony Ericsson will not continue its cooperation with HTC but will switch to to Taiwan-based Mobinnova (a handset maker under Foxconn Electronics/Hon Hai Precision Industry which made its own experiences with Windows Mobile already). According to these info, Sony Ericsson plans to outsource its second Windows Mobile-based smartphone (most likely the Xperia X2) to the Taiwanese ODM expert. Although Sony Ericsson is believed to continue expanding its lineup of Windows Mobile-based smartphones, the company's partnership with HTC will come to an end when the current production of Xperia X1 handsets completes its business circle, the paper quoted industry sources as indicating.

VIDEOVIEW: T-Mobile Germany's Digitaler Bilderrahmen aka MMS Photo Frame
Two weeks ago, I've mentioned T-Mobile Germany's new digital picture frame (called "Digitaler Bilderrahmen") which went on sale right before Christmas and this videoview shows you how well it's working. Unfortunately available in Germany only this picture frame, manufactured by Chinese ODM Huawei, isn't just a 7" WVGA picture frame which also supports SD card, no it also features an embedded GSM/GPRS module which allows to receive photos via MMS or Web-upload. The picture frame comes preconfigured with a SIM card and MSISDN and after it is switched on and the picture frame automatically connected it to T-Mobile's GSM network, it's ready to receive photo uploads.

PHOTOVIEW: HTC S740 Windows Mobile Standard Smartphone
Following last week's HTC S740 videoview, here we go with some more photos of HTC's latest Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard smartphone. As you can see bellow, the S740 is a mix of a standard smartphone and HTC's Touch Pro, featuring a mobile phone typical keypad as well as a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The whole device follows the HTC Touch Diamond design with a shiny mirrored front, including a very shiny keyboard which isn't - unfortunately - not too scratch resistant. The battery cover also features the HTC Touch Diamond typical diamond shape but it's not piano-glossy but more a kind of soft-touch surface. While the navigation-pad looks also similar to the HTC Touch Diamond directional-pad, it's not touch sensitive at all.

VIDEOVIEW: Unboxing the HTC S740 Windows Mobile Standard Smartphone
Back in August, HTC announced its latest Windows Mobile Standard smartphone, the HTC S740. While it follows HTC's latest design and looks pretty similar to the HTC Touch Pro, it's a non-touchscreen smartphone which actually replaces the HTC S730. Like the S730, the S740 is also a 3.5G and the typical slide-out keyboard but other features either got an update or are completely new. While the S740 still not supports UMTS/HSDPA networks in the U.S. it supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and also features WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 as well as aGPS/GPS which works, for instance, quite well with the pre-installed Google Maps Mobile client (which nevertheless isn't the latest one featuring Street View). Other features includes a 3.2 megapixel fixfocus main camera, 256 MB RAM and ROM as well as a 2.4" QVGA screen.

RUMOR: Is Windows Mobile 6.5 showing here its face the first time?
While its existence was already leaked by Motorola and later confirmed by Microsoft, nearly nothing is yet known about Microsoft's next Windows Mobile version which is currently called "Windows Mobile 6.5". Nevertheless, SmartphoneFrance.info recently published two screenshots the website calls legit Windows Mobile 6.5 screenshots. According to these shots and SmartphoneFrance.info, Microsoft will "completely" (?) revamp the user interface using Windows Mobile's "Confetti" engine (which is already used in Windows Mobile 6.1). However, since the two screenshots only show the Today screen, it's not yet clear if it is another facelift only or if the underlying menu structures will be revamped as well:

THOUGHT: Install Windows XP on Netbooks from your Windows Mobile Smartphone
This week I got my hands on LG's brand new and recently released LG X110 Netbook with embedded HSDPA which I want to test as an alternative to the HTC Shift UMPC. Since the LG X110 sports a massive 160 GB hard disk drive, I planned to partition it into two drives, C: and D: which I do with most of my PCs and Notebooks anyway. While C: holds the operating system (in this case Netbook-typical Windows XP only) and programs, D: is used to store all my documents. The benefit is that I don't have to take care about my documents in case I have to re-install the operating system because D: isn't formatted or deleted but C: only. However, since the LG X110 is a typical Netbook, it doesn't features an inbuilt optical drive which makes installation of an OS a little bit more difficult.

While details are pretty sketchy at the moment, it's said that the Samsung GT-C6620 will feature Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard and sports an inbuilt QWERTY thumb keyboard with a similar form factor to the Samsung SGH-i600/BlackJack.

HACK: Mobile Boot Camp runs Windows Mobile on the Apple iPhone [UPDATE]
One of the smartest Apple developments was Boot Camp for Mac OS X which allows a user to run Windows XP or Windows Vista on a Mac. Now, a kind of - let's say - "Mobile Boot Camp" might hit the Apple iPhone as well. Sure enough, this time it's neither developed nor supported by Apple itself but by Norwegian developer Erik Kristiansen who developed his own Boot Camp which either runs his iPhone with the original Apple OS or alternatively with Windows Mobile Professional. Sure, the video bellow could be a fake as well but for now we take him by his word:

UNVEILED: HTC's T8290 - another Touch HD but now with WiMax? [UPDATE]
As we've learned from HTC, the HTC Touch HD isn't coming to the U.S., while HTC also mentioned that some other great products are in the works for a North American launch. And while no further details were give, one of these products could be the "HTC T8290" (commercial name yet unknown). A WiMax-enabled Windows Mobile Professional smartphone which is soon to be launched on Russia's Yota network and  shares some features with the HTC Touch HD but instead of sporting HSPA (HSDPA and HSUPA), the HTC T8290 features WiMax. While further details are mostly unknown yet, it seems to be confirmed that the T8290 features Windows Mobile 6.1, a Touch HD-like 3.8" WVGA touchscreen, GSM and WiMax, WiFi g and Bluetooth 2.0 and it seems to be the squarish brother of the Touch HD, featuring a more Touch Diamond-esque design:

DEVELOPMENT: First Firefox Mobile for Windows Mobile Screenshots available
We heard about the upcoming Firefox Mozilla Alpha launch earlier and as the Firefox Mobile team mentioned in the very beginning, Firefox Mobile will be definitely released for Windows Mobile as well. So far, everything was theoretical only but now we have the first screenshots of Firefox Mobile, running on a Windows Mobile Professional touchscreen smartphone. These screenhots are giving a good impression how the final version of Fennec might look/most likely look like but even more important, the developers managed to run the Acid3 Test with a score of 88/100 - which is impressive for a mobile browser!

AVAILABLE: Sling Media releases SlingCatcher for immediate availability
Announced earlier this year, Sling Media today announce that its award-winning SlingCatcher, a clever extension for its Slingboxes, is now available for purchase from leading retailers and online retailers in the U.S. as well as in Canada and the UK. The SlingCatcher is a universal media player that seamlessly delivers broadcast TV, Internet video and personal content to the TV. The SlingCatcher closes the gap of getting place-shift TV streamed to a hotel room which, nevertheless, has to be watched in most cases on the Notebook instead of the TV screen at the hotel room. Furthermore it allows customers to watch online video from any popular site on the internet including network television sites like ABC.com, video content sites like Hulu.com, community video sites like YouTube.com, and even online movie rentals from popular services like Netflix.

Not that the new BlackBerry Storm runs on Windows Mobile, for sure not, but it's hitting Microsoft in its own backyard because so far, Microsoft was quite successful and unique in the touchscreen smartphone field (while survived Apple's iPhone and awaiting Google's Android devices). Now, Vodafone Group announced the launch of the BlackBerry Storm smartphone from Research In Motion (RIM). The BlackBerry Storm is the first ever 'clickable' touch screen smartphone and will be available exclusively on Vodafone's high speed 3G mobile broadband network in Europe, India, Australia and New Zealand from next month. UPDATE: Samsung releases more SGH-i900 Omnia Updates
Back in August, Samsung released the first Windows Mobile ROM update for its SGH-i900 Omnia smartphone which Samsung initially made available to Singaporean customers only. And as mentioned, it's worth to keep an eye on Samsung's Omnia update page since Samsung has released a couple of more updates for other countries as well now. While it's not yet clear what the new ROM improves or enhances, the 108 MB download is now available for i900 users in Italy, France, Malaysia, the Philippines as well as Singapore. Unfortunately Samsung hasn't released any release notes nor is it known which languages the ROM updates are (most likely the country languages) and therefore a cross-update isn't suggested.

EXPANSION: Sling Media's Slingboxes to come to Europe
Sling Media has launched the Slingbox in the UK and Sweden some time ago already but now it comes to more countries across Europe, including Germany. Founded in 2004, Sling Media, Inc. invented a new product category called place-shift and Sling Media is a different kind of consumer electronics company - one that's working to demystify convergence technologies and to create empowering experiences for the digital media consumer. The focus of Sling Media is to embrace - not replace - existing products and standards by enhancing them with hardware and software that make divergent technologies compatible and greatly improve the consumer experience. Because, after all, can't we all just get along?!

RUMOR: Is the LG KS500 LG's next Windows Mobile smartphone?
Since LG released its LG KS20 roughly 1.5 years ago, LG became pretty silent in terms of Windows Mobile but both, the FCC as well as the GCF recently approved a new device called the LG KS500. If you follow LG's naming scheme, there is a good chance that the KS500 might be the Windows Mobile follower of the KS200 (while it could also be LG's Android device). Not too much is known yet but the GCF unveiled that the KS500 is a triband GSM/GPRS/EDGE device and singleband UMTS/HSDPA  mobile phone while the FCC confirmed that the KS500 features Bluetooth as well.

UNVEILED: O2 UK's XDA Zest shows its face
Do you remember the O2 XDA Zest we wrote about some time ago? The O2 Xda by Asus? While the official information was somewhat limited, O2 UK's latest Windows Mobile smartphone just showed its face in the coming soon section of the carrier's web site. According to O2, "this mobile phone will give you great access to functionality with a large screen, Wi-Fi, AGPS, and 3G. You also get a 5 Megapixel camera with 4 GB built-in memory with expandable memory as well as quad band reach". As the GCF confirmed earlier, the XDA Zest will be a 3G smartphone. Interesting enough, it seems to be a completely different device than Asus own Zest, the Galxy7:

UPDATE: Option releases new GlobeTrotter Connect Dasboard for Windows and Mac
Earlier this year I wrote about Options's GlobeTrotter Connect dasboard software which I compared to E-Plus' Online Connect software. And while I generally preferred Option's GlobeTrotter Connect, I mentioned in the article that I've missed at least one feature: Network selection: "The only feature the Option software is missing is the function to let you select the network. While this doesn't makes sense in your home country, this can be important during international roaming, for instance when one available carrier offers better rates than another". Looks like someone was listening because Option recently released an update of its GlobeTrotter Connect dasboard software which is now available in v3.0.x.

BETA: Microsoft plans place-shift solution for Windows Mobile
I have no idea for how long Microsoft is trialing it's "Microsoft Mobile Media" service already, the FAQ talks about "Dogfood 1" and "Dogfood 2" (Microsoft's term for internal Betas), but it looks like Microsoft is finally working on a kind of "place-shift" product as well - quite similar to Orb. Mobile Media is described to "allow you to quickly and easily access your personal content - pictures, music, and videos - on your personal computer from your mobile phone [At the moment, Windows Mobile 5 and 6 Standard and Professional smartphones are supported]. You can also automatically send pictures that you take with your phone to your PC. To use Mobile Media, you'll need to download and install client applications on both your PC and Mobile phone."

ROYALTY: Microsoft to stick with licensing fees for Windows Mobile
Not a surprise at all - since software is Microsoft's business - that, according to Reuters, Microsoft plans to continue charging licensing fees from handset makers for using Windows Mobile and not follow the free offerings of Google (Android) and Nokia (Symbian), Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said on Tuesday. The pressure on Microsoft's high licensing fees has increased over 2008 with Google rolling out free Android technology and Nokia offering to buy out others from Symbian and also make its software royalty-free. According to Analysts, Microsoft charges US$ 8 to US$ 15 per phone.

BROWSER: Microsoft's Internet Explorer Mobile 6 aka 6 on 6 is real and shows its face
The next, officially announced, big update for Windows Mobile will be - as Microsoft calls it - "6 on 6", which is Internet Explorer Mobile 6 on Windows Mobile 6.1. The current Internet Explorer Mobile code, as it is used for today's Windows Mobile devices and smartphones, is based on the pretty much outdated Internet Explorer 4.x, which was initially released back in September, 1997! The time of Windows 95 and Windows NT 4, when the World Wide Web was pretty young. So no question, it is time for an update! And while some called 6 on 6 vaporware already, even if Microsoft's Andy Lees confirmed its upcoming release in our earlier interview, you can see bellow that it exists indeed as the the screenshots we recently received proves.

It's quite interesting how proud Sony Ericsson is about its upcoming Xperia X1 Windows Mobile smartphone which is mentioned in every second sentence during this morning's presentation (I cannot remeber Sony Ericsson was so proud about its UIQ platform ever). While it will not support Sony Ericsson's new and yesterday announced PlayNow plus music service (because of the lack OMA 2.0 aka DRM support in Windows Mobile), the Xperia line is definitely in Sony Ericsson's focus. During today's executive sessions, it was briefly mentioned that some X1 followers will follow anytime sooner or later but again Sony Ericsson declined to comment if upcoming Xperia's will run on Windows Mobile or other platforms but the Xperia is definitely Sony Ericsson's smartphone-line and therefore has to run on a kind of smart OS.

Thanks to O2 Germany, which will exclusively carry the HTC Touch HD in Germany, I got my hands on an early prototype and while the ROM built wasn't anything close to a release candidate, the hardware looked pretty final already. The HTC Touch HD is a real power-horse featuring a Qualcomm CPU at 528 MHz as well as supporting quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE but only dualband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA up to 7.2 Mbps. Other wireless technologies supported are WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS/aGPS and an FM radio:

RUMOR: Is Microsoft's Windows Mobile 7 delayed to late 2009?
Not that Microsoft's Windows Mobile 7 is anything official yet, it's expectable that Microsoft is working on a Windows Mobile 6.x follower which is - most likely - the number 7. However, if today's information turns out to be true, Microsoft might want to skip 7 in favor of 8 already (at least 8 is a lucky number) because - according to Beyond Binary (a CNet News blog) - Microsoft has recently informed some of its partners that it has had to delay Windows Mobile 7. Partners (like ODMs and carriers) who had expected to have a final release in their hands by early next year have been told now that the new Windows Mobile platform won't be ready until the second half of next year, sources told CNET News.

INTERACTIVITY: T-Mobile and Opera to introduce Widgets for Windows Mobile
T-Mobile last week announced to work with Opera Software to make its web'n'walk even more intuitive and bringing the user even closer to the World Wide Web. In future, you will be able to access your personal favorite sites more easily and quickly than ever from your mobile phone by simply selecting the corresponding widget, an active icon, from the standard display. The web'n'walk widgets can be quickly and easily set up according to personal preferences for mobile surfing. In order to enable this, T-Mobile is providing a gallery, initially with approximately 40 widgets for popular websites. It will soon be possible for other users and providers to create additional widgets via an open platform.

The HTC Touch HD features HTC TouchFLO 3D which runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and it's powered by a Qualcomm MSM7201a CPU at 528 MHz which is said to support quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as dualband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 900/2100 MHz. NETWORK: O2 Germany launches EDGE and increases HSDPA coverage
Not of general Interest at all, O2 Germany today announced it has launched parts of its EDGE network in Southern Germany. According to O2 Germany's press release, today 700 sites went live and provides EDGE instead of GPRS if a customer is out of UMTS coverage. In the next days, EDGE is planned to go live in other regions as well. Until end of this year, O2 Germany plans to have more than 4500 sites EDGE enabled which basically means that O2 customers can expect a bandwidth increase from today's 53 Kbps (with GPRS) up to 236 Kbps (with EDGE). And since O2's GSM coverage is still better than its UMTS coverage, this is definitely an appreciated service upgrade.

UPDATE: Street View and Walking Directions come to Google Maps for Mobile
Not yet available for Windows Mobile smartphones, today Google launched a new version of Google Maps for Mobile with the same street-level imagery as available available on desktop. Furthermore, Google's new Maps for Mobile features walking directions (beta) which I wrote about some weeks ago and which Google recently recently launched on desktop. Last but not least, Google Maps Mobile also features to help you search for and get to businesses and locations. You can now read business reviews, so you'll know if it's actually worth driving across town to that store. Finally, Google hopes we'll notice significant improvements in search speed with this version, as well as better location accuracy in all versions thanks to this week's My Location update.

VIDEOVIEW: Hands-on with Sony Ericsson's latest Xperia X1 Built
Following Sony Ericsson's announcement from last week to finally launch the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 later this month, thanks to O2 Germany - which confirmed the upcoming launch as well - last weekend I got my hands on an Xperia X1 as well. And while the device was still based on the pre-production hardware, the Windows Mobile ROM built was way newer, actually it was from early September and I was told that, even if not the release candidate, this Beta comes pretty close to what the final software should look. First of all, the ROM is way faster than everything I've seen on an X1 before. Switching between portrait and landscape mode just seems to take milliseconds only and also the panels start much faster than before.

SERVICE: Google introduces Mobile Search with My Location for Windows Mobile
Previously, when you went to google.com from your Windows Mobile phone's browser and performed a local search, the results were tailored to the last location you entered. Now, using the Gears Geolocation API, Search with My Location approximates your actual location using the same Cell ID technology used by Google Maps Mobile. So if you want to find sushi nearby, just type "sushi" and Google will return local business listings around you. If you want to know the forecast, type "weather". If you want to search somewhere else, specify a location in the query like "pizza Kansas City".

FUTURE: Does Sony wants a divorce from Ericsson?
In an interview with German newspaper "Welt Online", Howard Stringer, CEO of Sony speaks about the future of Sony but also about a possible future of Sony Ericsson and this future might not be as bright as the past was. When Sony and Ericsson merged as Sony Ericsson, Sony brought its design and media competence into the new venture while Ericsson brought is technical know-how and both together created some exciting phones, except the not so successful Symbian-based UIQ smartphone line. Anyway, it looks like Howard Strigner isn't happy with the current situation of Sony Ericsson and while he hasn't mentioned to either leave the joint venture or to take it over, the interview shows that he's thinking about Sony Ericsson's future:

As mentioned, the V900 is a quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and triband UMTS/HSDPA smartphone and it will be the first 3G Windows Mobile smartphone featuring Europe's widely used free to air digital DVB-T TV service. Following the latest developments, the V900 also features a (VGA) flat panel which makes it easier and nicer to use with thumbs and therefore, the device lacks the Windows Mobile typical Start and OK buttons. The autofocus camera on the backside features a 3 megapixel CMOS chip and quite nice is the fact that the device uses a standard 2.5 mm headset plug instead of propriety headset plugs:

INFRINGEMENT: Is this the end for SiRF-based PNDs, PDAs and Mobile Phones in the U.S.?
While many GPS-enabled mobile phones and Windows Mobile phones uses Qualcomm's gpsOne technology for embedded GPS, not all mobile devices either use Qualcomm chipsets or Qualcomm's GPS enhancement. And therefore, Broadcom's latest victory might prevent a release of SiRF-enabled in the U.S. As Broadcom announced yesterday, an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) has recommended that the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) bar from importation into the U.S. infringing chips of SiRF Technology Holdings, and all downstream products that incorporate those chips. The affected products include personal navigation devices (PND), GPS modules and receivers, personal digital assistants (PDA), and cellular telephones.

It's powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as triband UMTS/HSDPA, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, WiFi b/g, an inbuilt SiRF Star III GPS receiver, and an FM radio - in addition to the support of DVB-T. PERSPECTIVE: HTC plans to play a big number in the Smartphone market
When HTC started back in the 90's of the last century, it started as an ODM for companies like Compaq (today HP) and for instance manufactured Compaq's best-seller Pocket PC, the iPAQ. However, as time went bye, the classic Pocket PC PDA segment more or less fade-out and today it's all about smartphones. When HTC announced its "Global Branding Strategy" early last year, HTC made clear that it wasn't re-launched as an ODM brand again: "In the future, HTC will provide consumers with consistent global marketing services under the 'HTC' brand name. This comprehensive global marketing strategy will build up real, long-term brand value for HTC and will boost the company's overall competitiveness".

APPROVAL: GCF certifies HTC Touch Pro and indicates an Xda Serra launch
Not that the HTC Touch Pro is anything new or unknown anymore. Far from it since HTC as well as T-Mobile and O2 Germany have announced its HTC Raphael versions already. Nevertheless, all the different HTC Raphael versions just received the GCF (Global Certification Forum) approvals but the GCF also unveiled that there are two O2 versions planned: The already known Xda diamond pro from O2 Germany and the Xda Serra (most likely from O2 UK and Ireland).

UNVEILED: Palm Treo Pro Windows Mobile Smartphone shortly showed its face
Not that the Palm Treo Pro is officially announced yet but somehow, a Flash video demonstration briefly appeared on Palm's very own website (it has since been removed). Nevertheless, some screenshots stay and from what it looks, it might be the earlier leaked and so far as Palm Treo 850w aka "Palm Drucker" Windows Mobile Professional smartphone which features Palm's typical QWERTY thumb-keyboard. While the recently launched Palm Treo 800w is working in CDMA networks only, it's expected that the Palm Treo 850w (or Palm Treo Pro as we've learned now) is Palm's Treo 750 follower and therefore works with GSM and UMTS.

UPDATE: Tiny Twitter for Windows Mobile now with more Features and Functionalities
In my humble opinion, there are not too many good and useable Twitter clients available for Windows Mobile smartphones but the best one - Tiny Twitter - just got an update which adds some interesting features like TwitPic-support as well as the possibility to post your location to Windows Live Maps. Furthermore it now features a pop-up info screen, similar to the Windows Mobile SMS and E-Mail pop-up, info which notifies you about new and unread tweets, replies and direct messages:

CHANGE: HTC opens ROM-Updates to everybody - no more e-Club account required
HTC today announced that something great has happened for you since HTC is no longer holding its ROM updates behind an e-Club registration wall. As of Thursday, just like on HTC's US site, you will be able to visit the support section for any of HTC's unlocked Windows Mobile smartphone and UMPC models and see a link to downloads, including ROMs. For sure, these ROMs can be used with original HTC devices only and will not work with carrier branded versions (out of the box) but many of us has experienced the frustration of not being able to register a phone properly on the HTC e-Club, and therefore have been denied a ROM update. Actually HTC listened to all our complaints and opened the download to everybody.

As CNet Asia's Crave blog reported on Monday, Samsung Singapore will introduce a white version (with a slightly different structure) this weekend. Looks like Samsung is continuing re-releasing current devices with new colors, like before with AT&T's BlackJack II refresh. Furthermore, CNet Asia reports that Samsung Singapore will also release a ROM upgrade in Singapore later this month, which includes new widgets for the custom Home screen and a brand-new Hanyu Pinyin text input method for typing in Chinese characters.

UNCONFIRMED: Sprint and Verizon to launch the HTC Touch Pro as HTC Herman and HTC Raphael
In addition to the HTC Touch Diamond information for Sprint and Verizon, phoneArena.com also received information about an upcoming North American HTC Touch Pro launch. According to these information, both, Sprint and Verizon, will release a CDMA version of HTC's upcoming HTC Touch Pro and like the GSM/UMTS version, the North American versions will also feature the 5-rows slide-out keyboard which Sprint's internal code-name is "HTC Herman" while Verizon calls it "HTC Raphael". This speaks for the fact that Sprint's Touch Pro will have the same design as the upcoming T-Mobile MDA Vario IV while Verizon's version will most likely look like the original HTC Touch Pro.

UNCONFIRMED: Sprint and Verizon to launch the HTC Touch Diamond as HTC Victor and HTC Diamond
Following yesterday's posting about the expected release of the HTC Touch Diamond Windows Mobile Professional smartphone at Sprint, phoneArena.com received further information for both American CDMA carriers: Sprint and Verizon. According to internal information, the HTC Touch Diamond will be called HTC Victor at Sprint and HTC Diamond at Verizon. And while Sprint's HTC Victor runs on the original HTC Touch Diamond Qualcomm 7501A chipset at 528 MHz, Verizon's HTC Diamond only runs on a Qualcomm 7500 chipset at 400 MHz. Other differences are the memory: While the Sprint's Victor is expected to feature 256 MB ROM, 256 MB RAM and the well known 4 GB internal flash memory, Verizon's Diamond is expected to feature 256 MB of ROM but 128 MB of RAM only and also the 4 GB flash memory is left in favor of microSD card support.

While neither Sprint nor HTC made any official announcements yet, Taiwanese' "The China Post" unveiled in its Saturday issue, that "the company [HTC] begin selling the handset [HTC Touch Diamond] through Sprint Nextel Corp. in August". This would make perfect sense since the EVDO Touch Diamond is on sale in Canada already and photos of a Sprint branded HTC Touch Diamond was spotted earlier already. If Sprint is going to release the HTC Touch Diamond in the U.S., it's most likely that Sprint's version shares the feature-set of Telus Mobility's HTC Touch Diamond including Windows Mobile 6.1, EVDO Rev. W3C today announced new standards that will make it easier for people to browse the Web on mobile devices. Therefore it's interesting to see how Microsoft deals with different platforms and user interfaces for mobile devices. CONFIRMATION: FCC approves North American HTC Touch Diamond with UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA
While neither today's available HTC Touch Diamond nor the upcoming HTC Touch Pro support North American UMTS/HSDPA frequencies, the HTC Touch Diamond got at least a 2G ROM update which enabled the missing fourth GSM-band while the HTC Touch Pro will be quadband out-of-the-box. However, if EDGE isn't fast enough for you, the FCC just unveiled that it approved a North American version of the HTC Touch Diamond, supporting UMTS, HSDPA and even HSUPA at 850 and 1900 MHz. For new and upcoming customers, it's definitely good news but please keep in mind that today's available HTC Touch Diamonds will not get a tri- or even quadband 3G upgrade to make them working in the U.S. or Canada.

REVIEW: Samsung SGH-i900 Omnia Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Smartphone
The Samsung SGH-i900 Omnia is Samsung's latest Windows Mobile smartphone, featuring a touchscreen. For a Samsung Windows Mobile smartphone, the Omnia is quite unique because so far, Samsung was pretty focused on keyboard-centric Windows Mobile smartphones like the BlackJack/SGH-i600 or SGH-i780 which featured full QWERTY thumb-keyboards; while the i900 Omnia follows the trend to touchscreen centric smartphones. The i900 Omnia runs on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional platform and features quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE but only singelband UMTS  at 2100 MHz and HSDPA (up to 7.2 Mbps) while HSUPA isn't supported. Furthermore, the SGH-i900 features Bluetooth 2.0+EDR including support of A2DP as well as WiFi b/g, inbuilt GPS and FM radio with RDS support.

VIDEOVIEW: Software Hands-on with the final Samsung SGH-i900 Omnia Open Market ROM
Following the earlier Samsung SGH-i900 Omnia GUI and Software Hands-on videoview I've just received the final open market ROM for the Samsung SGH-i900 Omnia which is the software build, Samsung will use for its unbranded and SIM-free i900 Omnia. Unlike the previous hands-on, which was made with a SGH-i900 prototype running a Beta software, this videoview now shows you how the final software will look and work. As you can see, Samsung made further improvements to make the software even snappier and also adds/changes a couple of features. Also notable now is the increased stand-by time. Was the stand-by, with the Beta, something around 6 hours only, I haven't managed to get the battery to less then 50 % now, using it a full working day.

UNVEILED: Asus works on the GM5 aka the O2 Xda Zest Windows Mobile Smartphone
And another device Asus currently works on but this time it seems to be an OEMproduct-most likely for O2. The GCF (Global Certification Forum) just approved the Asus GM5, codenamed "Christal" which seems to be developed for O2 as the "Xda Zest". As always, the GCF doesn't gives any indication what kind of device the device might be but since it is called "Xda Zest", it's most likely that it is a new Windows Mobile smartphone. So far, it's only confirmed that the device supports triband GSM (900/1800/1900 MHz) as well as singleband UMTS (2100 MHz), UMTS video telephony and browsing capabilities:

FIX: HTC releases official 850 MHz ROM update for the HTC Touch Diamond
Following an unofficial ROM patch which appeared last week, HTC has now released a ROM update in Hong Kong which officially adds GSM 850 MHz to the HTC Touch Diamond making it a quadband GSM smartphone know which can be used virtually anywhere in the GSM world. In addition to adding GSM 850 MHz support, ROM v1.93.831.1 WWE also fixes some bugs HTC Touch Diamond users have seen already, like a no signal issue, no action while touching navigator control in camera mode as well as SMS sound alert notification delay issue. Furthermore it's said to increase the overall device performance including improved audio quality after audio booster is enabled, improved TouchFLO 3D tab switching and movement speed or improved home page loading speed.

UNVEILED: Asus to launch another 3G Windows Mobile Smartphone called P522
The GFC (Global Certification Forum) just unveiled another Asus - most likely - Windows Mobile smartphone which will be available in two flavors: as the Asus P552 and as the Asus P552w. Most likely a Windows Mobile smartphone since so far, all Asus P-Series smartphones were based on Windows Mobile Professional (touchscreen). Othen then that, not too much is known except that the GCF confirmed that it will be a triband GSM (900/1800/1900) MHz and singleband UMTS (2100 MHz) mobile phone supporting MMS and browsing. The supported frequencies speaks for a launch in Europe and Asia only:

RUMOR: Zune Phone (finally?) in the works at Microsoft?
No, this is neither confirmed nor have I heard anything but this rumor is constantly popping-up, here and there. Nevertheless, jkOnTheRun has received a - as James Kendrick said - "totally unconfirmed information from a reader" (who wishes to remain anonymous) that Microsoft is indeed working on a Zune phone. jkOnTheRun's source got information about a meeting this week in Redmond that was planning a Zune phone to compete with Apple's iPhone. Furthermore, the source got information that Microsoft's Zune phone will be based on a special version of Microsoft's next Windows Mobile version which is so far known as "Windows Mobile 7" and the key functionality of the phone is expected to be centered around Windows Live (Mobile) Services.

THOUGHT: The HTML Standard definitely needs a GPS:// Tag
The time where GPS was used by inbuilt car navigation and some outdoor sporties only is long time gone, today every high-end smartphone includes a GPS receiver, slowly moving into mid-range mobile phones as well. And many smartphones either come with a navigation software preloaded or, if nothing is available, in most cases a version of Google Maps Mobile is available. Nevertheless, all the GPS use is pretty much a one-way communication where a mobile phone receives the GPS data of the current position, process it and shows it on a map. But users cannot share this location in an easy and convenient Web 2.0-styled, way.

UTILITY: Change HTC's Touch Diamond TouchFLO 3D Themes with Diamond TF3D Config
I wrote about Diamond TF3D Config for HTC's Touch Diamond two weeks ago already but now it received a major update to its previous functions of letting you rearrange the TouchFLO 3D tabs and this problem resolves another problem I mentioned before also - getting back the original black HTC TouchFLO 3D to OEM devices. Version 0.6.5 allows you to change the theme of TouchFLO 3D as well as it now supports new theme files which also includes Windows Mobile themes. Preinstalled are the themes from HTC, O2, Orange and Vodafone. Further themes, original and modified, are available for download:

TIP: Use NewsGator Mobile iPhone Web interface with Opera Mobile 9.5
Not sure how many of you are using NewsGator as well but I'm a big fan of NewsGator since I bought NewsGator Inbox for Outlook back in 2004. The real benefit for me was all the time that NewsGator synchronizes the subscribed RSS feeds across all its supported platforms and clients. While initially not free, NewsGator now offers all its RSS readers for individuals for free which includes NewsGator Inbox for Microsoft Office Outlook, NetNewsWire for Mac but also NewsGator Go for Windows Mobile Professional and Standard smartphones as well as NetNewsWire for the iPhone. The base for the synchronization between all these clients is NewsGator Online which is also a great web-based feed reader on its own.

Service: Google adds pedestrian mode to Google Maps - no new mobile client available yet
Google Maps' "Get Directions" service just got another feature, available as a Beta (what else) only, which is called "Walking". Until now, Google always calculated and suggested a route for car use but with the walking feature, Google now adds the option to get directions, optimized for pedestrian. When I was in Paris last week, I used my Windows Mobile smartphone to get a calculation from Place de l'Alma to the Rue Lauriston and Google Maps Mobile suggested a 2.3 Km long way which even crossed the Place de l'Etoile instead of using a more direct, only 1.3 Km long way, which is also not the best but definitely better to walk then the suggested car direction:

However, if Windows Live is one of the services you use, Microsoft has just released the a new Windows Live client for your Windows Mobile smartphone which is now available for Windows Mobile Standard and Professional devices. If you have Windows Live already installed on your device, you will need to uninstall it first. To do that, go to Settings->Remove Programs, select Windows Live entry from the list (if any) and click Remove.

Both color schemes features a white front with white keyboards but on the backside, they are either pink or blue with decorative designs. Technical features like Windows Mobile 6 Standard (even if it's announced that the BlackJack II will get a Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade), quadband GSM/EDGE/GPRS, triband 3G UMTS/HSDPA at 850/1900/2100 MHz as well as Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and the inbuilt GPS receiver and 2.0 megapixel camera stays unchanged.

APPROVAL: Samsung's i900/i900V and i908 receives GCF certification [UPDATE]
We already know who the Samsung SGH-i900 and SGH-i900V are (both are also known as the Samsung Omnia) but so far we haven't received any confirmation what the SGH-i908 is about. Nevertheless, all three mobile phones (the two i900's are confirmed Windows Mobile Professional smartphones) just received the GCF (Global Certification Forum) approval which means they are network and GSM/3GPP standard compliant which again leads us to the speculation that the SGH-i908 is indeed the North American version of the Samsung Omnia. According to the GCF, all three handsets support quadband GSM, UTRA FDDI (UMTS at 2100 MHz), MMS and CS (Circuit Switched) 3GPP/VT (Video Telephony). However, there is no indication which UMTS bands are supported:

FIX: Unofficial Firmware unlocks the GSM 850 MHz band of the HTC Touch Diamond
As you might remember, HTC's Touch Diamond Windows Mobile smartphone is supporting triband GSM/GPRS/EDGE at 900/1800/1900 MHz as well as dualband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA at 900/2100 MHz only which makes it a smartphone with a strong focus on the European/Asian markets. While inbound roamers can use the 1900 MHz network during its visit of the U.S and Canada, the HTC Touch Diamond, as available today, isn't a real option for Americans since the important 850 MHz band, as used by AT&T wireless. Now some clever developers at Xda-developers.com found a way to enable the missing 850 MHz band on the HTC Touch Diamond to make it a quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE device.

DELAYED: Opera postpones Opera Mobile 9.5 launch to Thursday
As you might remember, Opera Software recently announced that the first Beta of its anticipating Opera Mobile 9.5 for Windows Mobile should be launched tomorrow. But as Opera just announced on its blog, the company needs two more days to iron-out some bugs. While the announced release date was for the Beta only, Opera Software rather wants to spend the extra time to fix just recently found bugs, and thus giving you a better experience. And while the buxfixing is almost complete now, Opera's developers wants two more days to run the build through its quality assurance testing. So don't hit the Opera server too hard tomorrow, there will be nothing new available for your Windows Mobile smartphone.

UTILITY: Free the HTC Touch Diamond's accelerometer with SKKV GSEN [UPDATE]
The HTC Touch Diamond's accelerometer is a quite useful hardware-component if only used. However, by default, HTC enabled the G-Sensor for given applications only, like Opera Mobile, the HTC Photo Album or Teeter. Other applications don't take a benefit from the accelerometer while at the same time, HTC also disabled the manual screen rotation as normally available in Windows Mobile. As a matter of fact, you can only run a small amount of predefined applications in landscape mode. Some applications, like E-Mail Inbox or calendar cannot be used in landscape but portrait mode only. However, SKKV's free GSEN solves this problem since it enables to use the accelerometer in all applications and enables to auto-rotate the HTC Diamond screen:

Since Telus Mobility is a CDMA carrier, Telus Mobility's Touch Diamond is for sure the CDMA version, featuring EVDO Rev. A high-speed Internet access. Other confirmed features are Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, TouchFLO 3D, inbuilt GPS, the 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera on the back, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi and inbuilt 4 GB memory. However, the FM radio, which the WCDMA version also includes, isn't mentioned by Telus Mobility.

SYNCHRONIZATION: SyncMate 1.3 synchronizes any Windows Mobile device with your Mac
With the more successful Apple Mac Notebooks, good sync-solutions for Windows Mobile and Mac OS are becoming more important as well. Following Eltima Software's earlier public Beta of SyncMate, the developer now released an updated version of SyncMate. SyncMate 1.3 lets users synchronize Favorites, Contacts, Calendar, Notes from any Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6 devices with their analogues Bookmarks, Address Book, iCal, Stickies on Mac OS and vice versa - and it supports synchronization via USB cable or WiFi (something which was removed from Microsoft ActiveSync years ago). SyncMate Expert allows to synchronize iPhoto, iTunes, Folders, Notes and Time and includes SMS Manager and Applications List manager.

REVIEW: HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Touch Pro, Samsung i900 Omnia & Sony Ericsson X1 Camera comparison
No question, so far Windows Mobile smartphone cameras were pretty basic and users mostly got 1.3 megapixel cameras only or - if lucky - a 2 megapixel camera with fixfocus. However, with the recent launched and upcoming new Windows Mobile smartphones, the situation will get better The new HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Touch Pro and Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 features 3.2 megapixel cameras with autofocus and the Samsung SGH-i900 Omnia even features a 5 megapixel camera which makes it the first available Windows Mobile smartphone in the 5 megapixel class. Furthermore, three of the new smartphones (Touch Pro, Omnia and X1) even sports a photo LED for night shots. Nevertheless, since all cameras are not the same, we took the recent opportunity to compare the four most anticipated phone cameras which each other.

THOUGHT: A dream comes true - all German carriers finally offering flat wireless Internet access
Today is a very special day for me because since today, all four German mobile operators are offering flat Internet access for their UMTS and HSDPA networks. I cannot believe that we finally reached this - after years of waiting. When I bought my first Windows CE PDA back in 1997, one reason I bought it was the possibility to access my E-Mails, and maybe the Internet wireless, from my PDA through my IrDA connected mobile phone. At these early days of wireless Internet, we used Circuit Switched Connections with an amazing fast up- and downlink of 9.6 Kbps and the use was charged per minute - at a time you better didn't staid connected too long!

COOPERATION: Google signs five year Map Agreement with Tele Atlas
While it's not yet clear why Google want to use Tele Atlas maps for Google Maps and Google Mobile, it could be an indication that Google wants to join the GPS navigation area as well. Tele Atlas, a leading global provider of digital maps and dynamic content for navigation and location-based solutions, yesterday announced that Google has signed a long term 5 year license agreement with the company that gives Google access to Tele Atlas maps and dynamic content in more than 200 countries around the world.

No question, with the HTC Touch Diamond, HTC released a winner smartphone and it looks like that HTC's recently announced and now accros Europe and Asia available smartphone also caught the interest from many mobile network operators. For instance it's confirmed that all major carriers in the UK and Germany will carry the HTC Touch Diamond, either in HTC's original design and configuration or with a different hardware design and adopted TouchFLO 3D color-sets. And while most of you might prefer the original black TouchFLO 3D user interface as well, most carriers have changed the TouchFLO 3D design to its corporate color and might even changed or reordered some TouchFLO 3D tabs.

VIDEOVIEW: Hands-on with the O2 Xda diamond pro Windows Mobile Smartphone
In addition to the previous Photoview, I also had the chance to play some extra minutes with O2 Germany's Xda diamond pro, aka the HTC Touch Pro, to record a first hands-on Videoview of O2's (and HTC's) latest Windows Mobile smartphone. As you can see in the video, the footprint of the device is really small - quite similar to the HTC Touch Diamond. However, the Pro is nearly double as thick as the Touch Diamond. But the full-size QWERTZ(Y) keyboard is quite good, even if you think that the device is so small. On the backside you have the same 3.2 Megapixel autofocus camera as used for the Touch Diamond but this time it gets a LED photo-light supported:

As confirmed earlier, O2 Germany will also release the recently announced HTC Touch Pro and now we also know how O2 is going to call its Raphael version: O2 Xda diamond pro. While O2 Germany's latest Windows Mobile smartphone has yet to be officially announced (but I  heard that a pre-announcement is coming today with the full-blown press release on Monday), I already had my 15 minutes quality-time with an early marketing sample which - nevertheless - isn't sporting O2's branding but still carries HTC's. However, the keyboard layout (yes, it's QWERTZ which means it's a German keyboard) and the keyboard color (blue instead of HTC's green design) are already the final one:

RELEASE: Opera plans to launch Opera Mobile 9.5 for Windows Mobile mid July
While the Opera Software spokesman told me on the Mobile World Congress back in February, that Opera Mobile 9.5 for Windows Mobile should be publically available in summer, it took a little bit longer. Nevertheless, the wait is almost over as Opera announced today on its Opera Mobile blog. According to the posting, a release testing phase is underway now and the target date for the first Beta is July 15th; from where you will be able to download Opera Mobile 9.5 for Windows Mobile from opera.com - just like you would any other versions of Opera. As Opera unveiled on the Mobile World Congress already, Opera Mobile 9.5 is based on the same browser engine as Opera 9.5 for desktop, and this is the reason why it has taken some time to get it ready.

SYNC: Dashwire Mobile 2.0 goes Live to seamlessly integrate Phone and Web
I wrote about Dashwire's Beta launch some time ago and today, Dashwire informed me that the leader in Mobile/Web Connected Windows Mobile Services has released Dashwire 2.0. Dashwire helps people seamlessly connect their mobile phones with their computers and the web, enabling them to backup and integrate their content, search and interact with their information and share their experiences with friends and social networks. As we've recently seen with the Apple MobileMe (for the iPhone) and Nokia OVI (for S60 smartphones), the Connected Services space is on fire, creating exciting opportunities and demand for a free, cross-platform solution like Dashwire.

Not yet released but following our earlier Samsung SGH-i900 Omnia Photoview, I finally had the chance to spend some more time with Samsung's next Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional smartphone, Samsung recently announced and which is to be released soon. In this Videoview I will focus on the hardware and the i900 Omnia definitely offers some highlights including a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with face recognition and photo light as well as an optical joystick as introduced before by the Samsung SGH-i780 and it comes with either 8 or 16 GB of inbuilt memory (which is even expansible with microSD memory cards).

Following the previous Samsung SGH-i900 Omnia Hardware hands-on, this (24 minutes) Videoview of the SGH-i900 Omnia features Samsung's software and Graphical User Interface (GUI) implementation on Samsung's upcoming Windows Mobile Professional smartphone. While running Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, Samsung did a pretty good job to make the not yet thumb-friendly Windows Mobile touchscreen interface thumb-friendly by adding two kind of Today screen implementations (one pretty standard and one unique Widget-based Today screen) as well as an application launcher which completely replaces Windows Mobile's Start menu.

VIDEOVIEW: Unboxing the HTC Touch Diamond Windows Mobile Smartphone
Thanks to HTC I've just received a brand new HTC Touch Diamond which is officially on sale in Europe since this week. It took a little bit longer for HTC to send it over to me because it got a ROM update just before it was sent out and now includes the latest ROM build which also features the TouchFLO 3D improvements I've mentioned earlier. This videoview is about the unboxing only and shows what the HTC Touch Diamonds comes with (which includes the device, a stereo headset, the charger, the USB to mini USB cable as well as a spare stylus but no pouch):

SNAPPINESS: HTC fine-tune TouchFLO 3D for better performance
I've just received some good news from HTC. While the general feedback about TouchFLO 3D was very positive, most of you might have noticed, especially in the videos available on the::unwired and the Internet, that here and there TouchFLO 3D wasn't as responsive as it was expected to be. TouchFLO 3D is a brand-new HTC product and it's not just a Today screen plug-in but it's HTC's new GUI philosophy which is a central key for HTC's upcoming Windows Mobile devices. Nevertheless, TouchFLO 3D, on an HTC Touch Diamond (which is the first smartphone which carries TouchFLO 3D) wasn't - performance-wise - what most of us expected and HTC is fully aware of this and was heavily improving the performance during the past days and weeks.

At the moment, HTC has one UMPC in its portfolio only, the HTC Shift and, according to Chou, the focus of HTC's development will continue to strengthen users' Internet experience through mobile devices. That's at least what PhoneReport says, which had the chance to chat with Chen during the HTC Touch Diamond launch event in South Africa. At this event, Chen unveiled that HTC is planning to release a device with Google's Android Operating System by Q4 of this year and also confirmed that Windows Mobile 7 is on the roadmap for a Q1 launch early next year.

REVIEW: Giga-Byte GSmart t600 Windows Mobile Professional DVB-T Smartphone
Just in time to the EURO 2008, Vodafone Germany and Giga-Byte introduced the GSmart t600 (we've previously photoviewed), a Windows Mobile 6 Professional 2.5G smartphone. While the GSmart t600 design is over one year old already (the t600 was unveiled during last year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona) it's still quite stylish, if you like white "iPodish" mobile devices. Powered by a Marvell PXA270 CPU at 520 MHz, the GSmart t600 is a quadband GSM and GPRS device, also featuring WiFi b/g and Bluetooth 2.0. Nevertheless, neither EDGE nor W-CDMA in terms of UMTS or HSDPA are supported which might makes the device less attractive to online-savvies. But that's not the focus of the t600 anyway but the main reason for this smartphone is the fact that it supports DVB-T broadcast which allows users to watch digital terrestrial TV on the go.

Looks like the developers of of the upcoming Firefox Mobile (which is now code-named "Fennec"), which will be available for Windows Mobile also, makes some progress. Aza Raskin, a user interface expert and head of UX for Mozilla Labs, recently published a concept video in his blog which demos how Firefox Mobile might work. User experience is the most important aspect of having a compelling mobile product. According to Raskin, many of the standard interaction models, like menus, always-present chrome and having a cursor, don't necessarily make sense on mobile.

According to a today published research by the GSM Association (GSM), the usage of mobile data services, which enable people to access the Internet, E-Mail and other multimedia on the move, is growing rapidly in the European Union as mobile broadband networks proliferate and prices fall. The EU's mobile data market (which excludes SMS text messages) grew by 40 % to 7 billion Euro in 2007 as operators invested more than 20 billion Euro in enhancing their mobile networks and services, according to research by Wireless Intelligence and consultancy AT Kearney. PHOTOVIEW: Hands-on with the O2 Xda diamond Windows Mobile Smartphone
Following O2 Germany's earlier announcement to launch it's version of HTC's Touch Diamond later this summer as the O2 Xda diamond, the German carrier held two press events this week where the Xda diamond was first time publicly shown. While I had the chance the get my hands on an earlier version already, for me it was the first time also to see the final look and feel of O2's latest Xda Windows Mobile smartphone. Like the HTC Touch Diamond, also the Xda diamond will run on Windows Mobile 6.1 supporting triband GSM/GPRS/EDE (no 850 MHz support), dualband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (featuring 900/2100 MHZ) with a HSDPA downstream of up to 3.6 Mbps and a HSUPA upstream of up to 2.0 Mbps.

Coming in late summer 2008, the MDA Vario IV T-Mobile will ensure even more convenience in the mobile office. A special feature of the organizer for use on the move is the large, slide-out complete QWERTY keyboard. Just like a PC keyboard, it has five rows of keys, making it best in class in terms of mobile devices. Like the MDA compact IV, the new MDA Vario IV also offers convenient mobile Internet access using HSDPA up to 7.2 Mbps, video telephony and a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera as well as integrated GPS module round off the device's top features.

FOLLOW-UP: the::unwired's Slingdex now lists the HTC X7510 and HTC Touch Diamond
During the past week and over the weekend, I had some time to update the::unwired's Slingdex, which measures the run-time of mobile devices while constantly streaming a TV stream over UMTS (read more about the::unwired's Slingdex here) and the latest results are quite promising, maybe even better then expected. the::unwired's Slingdex now includes the results for the upcoming HTC Advantage X7510 and HTC Touch Diamond. The HTC X7510 scored 2:50 hours (which makes it the yet best Windows Mobile Professional smartphones) while the HTC HTC Touch Diamond (in this case an O2 Xda diamond with final HTC Touch Diamond ROM) scored 2:01 hours only.
